Eating area Located on the ground floor of the church's beautiful "City Mission Building" across the street from the main sanctuary and office complex, Our Daily Bread Bakery and Deli is a unique vegetarian outreach ministry. A lunch counter and dining area provide a cheerful atmosphere for business people in the area to have a healthful lunch in a peaceful environment. A book and magazine area provides a quiet place where customers can browse through Christian literature while eating their delicious food. Many varieties of health foods and baked goods are on sale to the general public (see the menu below). Most important are the many varieties of bread to choose from. Baking bread and giving it away was the reason that the Bakery and Deli was first started more than twenty years ago.

History
In the autumn of 1980 ladies from the church started baking bread in large, round juice cans so that the bread could be used as small gifts to give out to those of the community visited by Bible workers and lay members. These loaves were also given to the local community leaders, and were sold at Prayer Meeting. The interest grew so successful that after much prayer, it was decided to look for a building in which this ministry could grow.

Original bakery In July 1981, after an exhaustive search, they found space in an old dry cleaning shop on the corner of Front and Funston streets just one block from the church. During the six months it took to get the new bakery ready for business, the bread was baked, twelve loaves at a time, in the home of Diane Roberts which was located next door to the bakery. Healthful cookies, nuts, grains, pies, and several varieties of bread were the items being sold. Those that began this project were Terry and Margie Burns, Bill and Mary Campbell, Pastor Dale and Yolanda Leamon, Weldon and Diane Roberts, and George and Karen Steiger. Mary Campbell sewed the curtains and helped with the decorations, giving the sales area of the new bakery a warm, country feeling. Margie Burns became the first manager.

Finally the city permit was received, and the bakery opened on January 2, 1982. Walter and LouAnn Strachan gave the bakery ovens and bakery equipment, and all felt that this was one of many signs that this ministry was approved of God. There was adequate funds and enthusiasm, but little stock of supplies. Soon supplies were purchased, and the new ministry was going forward at a rapid pace. The bakery became the first in a series of new church ministries with a "city mission" theme. From this bakery sprang cooking classses and food demonstrations at the newly acquired Health Center, which opened in August, 1982. The Day Care Center then opened in September, 1982.

Current City Mission Building Location
As the work outgrew the facilities, church members gave sacrifically to purchase property across the street from the church, and work was begun on a new bakery and health food store. Answered prayer brought more equipment and workers to meet the growing needs. Above the bakery is a large fellowship hall, where health programs, cooking schools, and church activities are held. The bakery is combined with the Our Daily Bread Book Store, and has become a wonderful way to introduce others to the Adventist lifestyle. Many individuals have contributed to the success of the Bakery and Deli. The following persons have served as manager of the bakery: Margie Burns, Sandy Lo Bue, Karen Steiger, Zane Owens, Yolanda Leamon, Irma Banuelos, Elgin Jenkins, Joanna Whitaker, Ryan O'Malley, Audrey Cohen, Deloris Brooks, and Don Yancy.
