Cambodia
Located in the southeastern region of Asia, Cambodia is slightly smaller than Oklahoma. With a population of 14.5 million people, 90 percent are Khmer, 5 percent are Vietnamese, 4 percent are of various ethnic groups and 1 percent are Chinese. The prominent religion is Buddhism with 96.4 of the population as adherents. Just 2.1 percent are Muslim, 2 percent are unspecified and 1.3 percent are catagroized as other.
Cambodia is a source, transit, and destination country for human trafficking. Children, men and women are trafficked for the purpose of commercial sex exploitation and forced labor. Women and girls are trafficked to Thailand and Malaysia for exploitative labor as domestic workers and forced prostitution. Parents sometimes sell their children to be used as beggars, domestic servants, or sex objects in brothels.
Cambodia has a low life expectancy rate, a high infant mortality rate, a high death rate and low population growth due to the excessive mortality of people infected with HIV/AIDS.
Here is a place ready for the Gospel. The Norwalk Youth Department are dedicating their time, money and emotions to go to a foreign land and reach out to people who may have never heard of Jesus. Our young people are nervous and excited. They need your prayers.
DATE: JULY 1-24, 2012. The PURPOSES: TO ENGAGE, TO ENCOURAGE, and TO ENHANCE by involving our youth and young adults in the mission that may help change lives for many Cambodians. We will work closely with our local leaders, pastors, and Mission director in providing biblical and spiritual support for one another to outreach in various ministries. The ultimate goal is to gain more souls for Christ's kingdom.
